Warts and All (18th Sept 2006)

Oh well the euphoria from a good run of form as been damped slightly due to the inevitable losing streak.

Newbury is now added to the list of punter unfriendly courses. A friend asked for some “advice” for a group outing last there weekend.

Unfortunately results did not go as predicted and the hours spent handicapping each race the night before seemed wasted after watching the string of high priced winners Saturday. Yet again competitive racing at a Grade 1 venue results in an impossible puzzle for punters. Oh well you cant win them all but that is no consolation to my friend.

As the second year of slipperytoad approaches I do need to review the past years exploits. Factoring the time of year, changing ground conditions and worn-out horses after a long flat season tis a dangerous time for us punters.

Add to the mix a two week business trip to Japan in October and holiday in lanzarote early November, I am going to take this opportunity to scale down operations until the beginning of the National Hunt/All Weather Season.

During this time I’ll let the notebook be the source of future bets as that process needs refinement. Why is it that every punter, his dog and the bookies have all noted the same horses i.e. those that are impressive winners, unlucky in running or badly drawn loser’s last time out?
