Doncaster - 3:55 (8th Sept 2005)
2m 2f - GNER Doncaster Cup (Group 2) (Class 1)
Course Description
A galloping track, ideal for the big, long striding horse, and the powerful galloper. On the round course, the track turns to the left in a most accommodating, gently sweeping fashion. Since the draw on Doncaster’s straight course can prove crucial, it is imperative that a jockey is sufficiently experienced either to profit greatly from a favoured stalls position or to overcome a poor draw
Analysis
On BHB/form ratings, only two horses have chances in this contest; Millenary and Distinction.
Distinction lost to Millenary by 2½ lengths at York and re-opposes on level terms again today. Millenary has a preference for a galloping track and so is well suited to the expanses of Doncaster.
Distinction is the current market leader due to the Stoute/Fallon factor, but given the poor favourite statistics in recent years [1141340465] and current prices, Millenary offers the value selection between the two.

This famous race has produced a dead heat between MILLENARY and Kasthari 12 months earlier but the only need for the camera this time was the one that Richard Quinn will need to take a print for his scrapbook to remember another vintage ride. The exaggerated waiting tactics employed when the John Dunlop-trained veteran returned to winning form in the Lonsdale Stakes at York once again worked a treat as he was still something like ten lengths off the pace entering the final two but stealthily made hisground up and was still hard on the bridle when cruising up to join the action in the closing stages. He quickened up just as his rider would have hoped and next stop could be the Jockey Club Cup, where provided the ground doesn't go bottomless, he couldwell complete the hat trick.
Sergeant Cecil had made great strides this term and put in a career best effort to add to his victories in the Northumberland Plate and Ebor. He came through to lead a furlong out and battled onto the line and looks capable of making a bold effort to complete a remarkable treble in the Cesarewitch.
Kasthari could go novice chasing now and will be a formidable performer in that grade if able translate his flat speed to that game. He came from off the pace to haveevery chance in the final furlong and really ran as well as could be expected.
High Action was another to exceed previous efforts as he made the running and battled on like a terrier when the principals came at him. He looks sure to win more racesin handicap company and is credit to his handler.
Jagger was unable to make the running on this occasion and probably didn't last out the extended trip and Distinction wasn't at home on the rain effected ground and wants it like a road. Cover Up chased the leader but dropped out in the closing stages and appears his peak in mid-June.
