Course Description
The course is fairly tight oval of almost 14 furlongs. It presents thoughbreds with a really fair test since its long wide straights are conductive to a good gallop. Probably more than any course in the country, Ripon shows a high bias towards front-runners

Overall there seems no more than length between the stands and far side, therefore it was not always easy to predict which side would come out on top. In general Ripon’s sprint track favours fast starters and front running types that can steal a march on their rivals as Ripon’s undulations help pacesetters hold off challengers on both sides of the track.
Analysis
A tricky handicap and as such I’ll observe and note whether I can identify likely winners on pace alone. What we are looking for here is a horse that can bounce of the gates quickly races prominently. On pace analysis the following are likely to be contest the early lead and in theory be there at the finish.
Mr Malarkey, Commando Scott, Partners In Jazz, Pieter Brueghel and Morse.

As predicted, horses that like to race prominently filled 2 of the first three positions and at decent odds too. Ripon will definitely be on my short list of punter friendly courses

A decent sprint in which the majority raced far side, and on this occasion they had the call with the first six coming from that group, so the overall form is slightly suspect.
The rain-softened ground suited PARTNERS IN JAZZ, who battled his way back after looking held a furlong out. He's a tough sort, and as he shouldn't go up too much for this narrow success, he may well find another race when he has his favoured ground.
Am Brose has plenty of form on soft, and ran well on his first run back from the Emirates. He looked the winner inside the last furlong, but seemed to hang fire and was caught. He may need to come later, but is clearly on a fair mark and can gain compensation.
This was a much more encouraging effort by Commando Scott, who goes well on soft, is back on a decent mark and should be winning soon on easy ground.
Trojan Flight ran another fair race, but the handicapper may have his measure now and Whitbarrow ran his best race for a while on ground that wasn'tideal for him.
CD Europe was first home on the stands' side, Pieter Brueghel dwelt, and Highland Warrior, who never got into contention, is harshly treated now following his easy win on the track on his reappearance.
