Course Description
Right-handed oval course with a stiff uphill finish of 2½ furlongs. Due to the nature of the course, this track is not really suitable for the adoption of waiting tactics. Form Students should give the claims of course and distance winner’s particular consideration.
Effect of the draw at 5 furlongs
On good or better going, in races of 8 - 18 runners, the top 6 stalls won 38 of 45 races 84%. With only nine runners of a varying ability contesting today, the draw is not a major factor in today’s race.
Analysis
Conditions events are open to horses of varying abilities dependant upon entry conditions. Today we have group class performers mixing with horses that struggle in claiming grades. But with £222 on offer to the 6th place finisher (1st place £8,000), I would say that one or two horses will be trying today so a decent gallop is assured. Given the wide level abilities (BHB ratings from 111- 56) it should be easy to develop a shortlist based on the toils of the official handicapper.
Short-listed are the three highest rated, these are Bahamian Pirate (107), Corridor Creeper (111) and Welsh Emperor (111).
Welsh Emperor is a promising runner. A potential group 3 performer and 3rd in a group 2 race, he was unlucky last time out when his saddle slipped. On form his best distance is 6f-7f which might be suited to conditions at Beverley but he may find the drop back in drop a bit sharp. The issue today is that he is equally rated with Bahamian Pirate but concedes 11lbs. Corridor Creeper is at best a listed class performer, on his highest rating and one who likes to dominate. Drawn in pole position (9) unfortunately there are one or two other horses contesting today that like to front-run so he wont get things his own way today. Given that he is a pure 5 furlong horse, the stiff up-hill finish at Beverley will also expose his lack of stamina. He concedes 8lbs to Bahamian Pirate.
By default, Bahamian Pirate is the selection (1 point win). His performances this year have been disappointing. However, he is a course and distance winner and drops a few pounds which places him on a competitive mark. With a number of lower rated rivals that like to front run his hold up style of running is well suited by the predicted pace in the race.

In the end this race turned out to be a modest event with ground conditions conspiring Bahamian Pirate. This should have being noted in pre-race analysis

A decent prize, but form which looks dubious to say the least. CORNUS, a high-class juvenile last year, has been largely disappointing this season and had been beaten in claimers in two of his last three starts. He came good here, however, despite not being ideally drawn.
Mr Wolf showed his usual good speed and looked likely to prevail entering the final furlong. But he was worn down close home by the winner. Pawan, who is rated only 68, puts the form firmly in perspective by filling thirdspot, despite having a mountain to climb at these weights.
Bahamian Pirate was far from disgraced in the twilight of his career, and running on ground much livelier than ideal. Corridor Creeper failed to produce his best under these fast conditions.
