Course Description
Chepstow is a grade one, left-handed, 2 mile, oval course. The run-in is 240 yards. The track is considered to be undulating with above average fences. The going is often very testing so stamina is important. The course also favours front runners.
Analysis
Historically, this race has provided pointers to the Welsh Grand National. Whatever the result, the race should be watched closely.
Based on statistics, Native Emperor, should run a big race, however the confident selection is One Knight. All of One Knightâs wins have been at Chepstow. He loves this course, is a natural front runner, runs extremely well fresh and his profile seems to indicate that this race has been laid out on a platter.

A competitive renewal of this handicap chase, which nearly always proves a handy guide to the Welsh National at the course later this month.
ONE KNIGHT(1) jumped well apart from one mistake on the first circuit on his comeback from injury. He had been off the course since chipping a bone in a hock in a fall in the Hennessy at Newbury 12 months ago but showed no signs of ring rustiness. He is always best fresh according to his trainer and that may stop him taking his chance in the Welsh National, where he will shoulder a 4lb penalty. However, Philip Hobbs may have a rethink, depending on how the handicapper reacts to this success. If he does not return to Chepstow, the pillar chase at Cheltenham at the end of January and then the Gold Cup could be theroute for him
