Axminster Carpets Devon Marathon Handicap Chase (Class D) 4m

Course Description
A long right handed circuit of 2 miles. The course is hilly and undulating in parts which does not suit the long striding galloper. The fences are fair and the run in of 250 yards is uphill.

Analysis
The key to this race is the recent event held at Huntingdon 13 days ago. Today Flying Trix, Auburn Spirit, Flying Trix re-oppose and I’ll take a chance on Flying Trix based comments from the racing post.

“A real stamina test as they went a strong gallop and the picture changed dramatically through the last mile of this weak contest. Auburn Spirit ran the most even paced race of the principals and this consistent performer was rewarded with a win off his highest mark yet, suggesting he will find it hard to follow-up. Villair rooted a couple of fences to knock him back before he came from well off the pace to finish closer than looked likely through the race. Flying Trix fell three out when a close third still suggesting he would have played a big part in the finish.”

A bit of a gamble after falling last time out, Flying Trix is progressing in the right direction. Effective on stiff/undulating tracks either easy or flat he is in fine form and is taken to land the spoils
