Course Description
The All Weather fibresand surface is much slower than the polytrack used at Lingfield and Wolverhampton and places great demands on stamina. The course also favours horses that like to race prominently.
Analysis
Stamina, Stamina, and Stamina is the key factor for this race! At 1m 6f I have observed that given the testing nature of fibresand horses which have not been proven over this distance and going are soon found out.
The two horses that have proven credentials are Madiba and Trance and it is Trance who gets the confident call. Madiba won impressively over further two starts ago and relishes a stamina test. With a preference for the sandcastles at Southwell, he is proven over these conditions.
However, Trance is taking a big drop is class and has mixed it with some worthy opponents most notably in the Tote Cesarewitch where he was placed 7th. Proven on the surface (1st by 8 lengths in his maiden race at Southwell) he has shown ability over much further,
In this event, Trance will outclass his rivals and will notch up another win for his trainer D. Baron who has a 22% strike rate at this track.

Trace was placed 4th @ 13/8
Trance was well supported in the market with bets of £900-£400, £700-£400(x2), £1625-£1000 and my £5.

Quite a good staying handicap for the grade and competitive enough but, as usual for races over this sort of distance on Fibresand, they came home well strung out.
KRISTENSEN(1) does not win very often and looked sure to be passed by the eventual runner-up when that one loomed upsides travelling well, but he is a thorough stayer and simply wanted it more. This surface suits him ideally and he can improve his wins-to-runs ratio if persevered with this winter.
Dovedon Hero(2), switched to fibresand for the first time, handled the surface well and looked sure to follow up his recent Lingfield success when travelling strongly turning into the straight, but he refused to pass the eventual winner when asked. Polytrack is a much less taxing surface and may suit better.
Madiba(3) ran well, but was just one paced in the closing stages and is better suited by two miles.
Trance(4) managed to finish just in front of today's winner in the Cesarewitch two starts previously and won on his only other tryon fibresand, but proved unable to peg back the principals having been ridden patiently and was not quite at his best
