Course Description
Kelso consist of two sharp, left-handed chase and hurdle courses and long striding gallopers are disadvantaged. There is along stiff uphill finish of 490 yards from the last fence, however this track is suitable for front-runners
Analysis
Selection: Harlov (1pt win) Bob's The Business (.5pt each-way)
A dress rehearsal for slipprytoad in preparation for the Aintree Grand National.
Key factors (given the current going) are a light weight and plenty of stamina. Of the contenders only Bob’s the Business has proven he’s got want it takes to win this marathon event. Well weighted (10-2) and stepping up to his favoured distance, he will be still around when others have given up.
Of the rest, Ossmoses and Harlov shape as staying longer than the preverbal mother-in-law.
Harlov was 1st last time out in a 3m 6f race at Bangor. From the form book comments (“pushed out run in”) he wont be inconvenienced by further. He will also enjoy the todays testing conditions.
Ossmoses also revels in testing conditions but unfortunately has the addition burden of being the market leader (favourite) so naturally has to be left out of calculations.
Others under consideration were
Lord Jack: Got found out in the Welsh Grand National bog fest!
Devils Run: In form stayer but has gone up 15lbs after his last win. Unlikely to improve further.
Freetown: has gone up 11lbs after last time out win. Carries > 11st today. Mac’s Supreme: On a three timer but has gone up 6lbs. Racing post comments note that the handicapper will be back in control after his recent efforts so further improvement unlikely today.

A complete cock up in form analysis here. I overlooked the fact that being 10 and 11 year olds, Harlow and Bob The Business were up against younger unexposed horses that were stepping up in distance.
Harlov was 4th @ odds of 5/1
Bob's The Business was pulled

This wasn't the strongest of races for the money on offer and it featured several who would have run in last week's Eider Chase.
MALEK(1) had run two fine races on his two previous starts, just losing out to Grattan Lodge at Carlisle and to TruckersTavern after hitting the last at Wetherby, but proved well suited by this stiff test of stamina. Racing close to the pace, he jumped well enough, and though he was being firmly driven three out, he responded well and ran on to lead after the last. He's comparatively lightly raced for a nine-year-old, clearly stays well and this was his highest winning mark by some way.
Ossmoses(2), another lightly raced sort, ran right up to form despite not jumping that fluently. He looked to have it won at the last, but was worn down on the run-in.
It was a distance back to Harlov, whonever got on terms having made a mistake or two
