Lingfield - 4:20 (25 Jan 2005)

7f - Play Slots At littlewoodscasino.com Handicap (Class 5) 4yo+

The draw statistics indicate that we need to side with horses drawn high, Queens Rhapsody, Smokin Joe, Screwdriver, Joy And Pain make most appeal on ratings.

Screwdriver has dropped steadily in class since a listed win as a 2 year-old. Showed signs of promise when 3rd last time out but this may be a false dawn given he has not won over this distance on turf or polytrack. Jockey’s form (0/10/51 win, place, ran) is poor

As I write this Smokin Joe is the current market leader on Betfair and a worthy one to boot after a recent eye catching performance. A course and distance winner the only chink I can find is that his win over 7 furlongs was easy (outclassed his rivals winning by 5 lengths). Things could be difficult today.

Queens Rhapsody best performances so far have been on fibresand and at Wolverhampton however he rates highly on speed and handicap ratings, drops in class and at a big price is worthy of a punt.

Joy and Pain appeals most as improvement is expected given a return to his preferred distance. Well handicapped (on a winning mark) all previous wins have been at Lingfield.

Smokin Joe is now a non-runner

Just finished watching the race and reviewed pace figures again. A little aftertiming but as I suspected, the winner came from a high'ish draw and at the moment (and indicated by previous races over 7 furlongs) a horse needs to be close to the pace in the final furlongs. Draw notes will be adjusted accordingly
