Chester - 6th Aug 2006

3.25 - Halliwell Jones Bmw - Mile Handicap Stakes (3) 7f122y

With all know handicapping factor counting against him (Pace, class, draw?, etc) and no wins for the stable in the last 14 days why is Chicken Soup the hot favourite? I smell an upset is on the cards.

At big prices, the two that catch my eye are Waterline Twenty and Heureux.

4th behind Fantasy Believer in a hot race at Pontefract on July 11th (who subsequently won the Stewards Cup Sprint Stakes on Friday, the course form of Waterline Twenty is a positive in the context of this race as I suspect that he’ll need to weave through one or two horses in the final stages of the race.

As a 3yo Heureux has already proven himself against his elders by coming an unlucky 4th in a good time recently. Handily place in stall 4 he can track leaders and hopefully avoid trouble in running which was his undoing at Catterick last time out.

4.35 - Listed Red Corner Events Queensferry Stakes (1 ) 6f18y

Quandary? Does Mr Wolf have the class to hold a prominent position throughout this 6 furlong dash? If he does not then I expect the “stranger” Moone Cross to pip him on the line.
