Glorious Goodwood - 3:05 (5th Aug 2006)
3:05 6f - Vodafone Stewards' Cup (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2)
If Mr Humphries of “Are you Being Served” fame was asking my opinion on the draw in this race he would comment “Which side do you swing sir?”
My response “high”
The result of Fridays 6 furlong Stewards' Sprint has fuelled the debate over the years but the stats indicate that the percentage call is to look for the winner drawn high.
Short-listed
Intrepid Jack, Borderlescott, One More Round, Firenze, Tax Free and Bentong
Tax Free and Firenze are big prices on Ladbrokes with is always a good indicator of a horses chances
3yos have a poor record in the race so Bentong is eliminated. One More Round seems better over 7f/1m. Firenze looks opposable via the “vulnerable favourite” process.
My reading of the pace is that it’s all over the place so no hard luck stories today. Specifically up high I suspect that Tax Free will pull them along and get caught in the final stages of the race.
I’ll stick my neck out again (after hitting the cross bar yesterday) and predict that the following horses will come from off the pace.
Intrepid Jack - stable mate of Baltic King who won the Wokingham, 2nd in the Bunbury. Winners of that race have a good record in the Stewards.
Borderlescott – 4th in the Wokingham from poor draw, noted as potential group/listed horse
Not there yet in terms of bet type, but the extacta looks awfully tempting…
